Statue of Hakoon VII in front of City Hall in Tromsø

Hakoon VII Haakon VII (born August 3, 1872 death September 21, 1957) was king of Norway from 1905 to 1957. He was baptized Christian Frederik Carl Georg Valdemar Axel, but went under the name of Carl and the prince of Denmark. He married 22 July 1896 with his kusine Maud Charlotte Mary Victoria of Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha, Princess of Great Britain and Ireland (born November 26, 1869, death November 20, 1938). He belonged to the first house of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. Prince Carl was the son of King Frederik VIII of Denmark and Princess Lovisa of Sweden, brother of Christian X of Denmark, the son of Christian IX of Denmark. He changed its name to Haakon when he was elected king of Norway after the union. Haakon VII was the king before the father and the older brother became kings of Denmark. He was succeeded by his son Olav V after his death.
